Smell and Tell- a mystery
fruit bag
Do a
three-period lesson for apple and pear.
lemon and orange
peach and plum
Have the children feel and smell the fruit. Pass
the fruit around the circle and let children weigh them
in their
hand.
Place fruit in a paper bag and do a blindfold
game or a mystery bag smell and tell guessing game.
DIRECT AIM: Sense
discrimination.
INDIRECT AIM: Fruit
discrimination.
VARIATION: Similar fruit
(peach/nectarines, lemon, lime, berries, etc.
EXTENSION: Fruit tasting.
Snack
time can be fun with fruit tasting and name guessing.
Better when snack is followed by free play.
Cut up in bite pieces the fruit in the
mystery bag.
Have a child blindfolded and offer him
pieces of fruit and ask him to guess the
names. Let children take turns in trying to guess.
This
exercise can be done year-round with the fruit in season.

for 2 - 4 year olds.
